Scenes from my Saturday

After 24 hours of feeling terribly under the weather, I was so glad to get out of the house on what can only be described as a gloooriously warm Saturday.

The day started off with lunch at Smorgasburg at Williamsburg with visitors, P and A from Toronto:
I think Dough makes the best doughnuts in NYC and my heart skips a beat when I find their wares anywhere other than at their Bed Stuy store. My favourite is the toasted coconut:
With dessert out of the way, I honed in on Scharf and Zoyer, a jewish sandwich stall - which I was most intrigued by after reading them in Serious Eat's new series: Anatomy of a Smorgasburg Pop-Up:
 The Ajoulk:
And the Kugel Double Down - both as tasty as they looked:

After our picnic by the Williamsburg waterfront, I picked up a loaf for the breakfast tomorrow:

And added to my stash of tea:

Alas we couldn't bear to join the 50-deep queue for these:

Though there was no way I wasn't stopping over at Toby's Estate for a taste of Aussie-style espresso and home decor inspiration:

***********************************************************

Friday's date night was postponed to this evening so after a quick siesta, S and I rode the subway back to Brooklyn again. This time to Park Slope's Talde:

Verdict: I am always skeptical of Asian-fusion cuisine but Talde is worth a return visit. The dish below is halo-halo, a Filipino dessert of shaved ice, condensed milk, jelly and fruit. I could have done without Talde's spin of adding Cap'n Crunch though:

This maxi dress I wore today is nearly a decade old. I had a tough time finding maxi dresses then that fit my short stature. So I purchased a lovely cotton sateen fabric (at Globe Silk Store - an iconic textile store in KL which closed in 2005 after 75 years in business) and entrusted my tailor to sew one to my measurements and style. The dress ended up costing me barely USD$20 and attracts innumerable compliments - makes me feel terribly bad explaining where I got it from when asked!

J Crew jeweled bracelets, Sportsgirl Australia red belt (sim), Vincci Malaysia sandals and Anthropologie necklace (sim)

There seems to be more warm weather tomorrow so a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens to see the sakura blooms is on the cards. Hope there is sunshine where you are too. Have a great weekend!

    What a beautiful day!
I have a weakness for toasted coconut doughnuts and that one looks particularly tasty :)

Allow me to join the chorus in saying I too love your blog and that dress :) As a fellow petite girl, 5'1, I too have trouble with maxi dresses. But, I lucked out on one at the Gap petites recently.

The concept of petite sizing was so foreign a decade ago! I have no problem finding things that fit these days - Gap maxis are so comfy. There is this grey strappy one I like but I can't locate it in my size anywhere! Thanks for reading and please stop by again soon!
