Momofuku Quack

We've had an uptick in socialising this past week - two sets of visitors from Sydney, two birthday parties, a Bastille Day game night, and our usual Friday evening date. That meant I was more than happy to cheer and celebrate Germany's win this afternoon from the comfort our my sofa.

But first let's recap yesterday afternoon, when I got a bunch of friends together for the rotisserie duck lunch at Momofuku Ssäm, one of the best food-related things we've done in NYC this year.

Notwithstanding the big lunch awaiting us, one can't come to Momofuku without having pork buns. Before we could wipe away pork sauce from our lips, our waiter presented with the duck du jour, before taking it away to the kitchen to be carved up.

The whole duck is stuffed with duck and pork sausage under the skin and then cooked on a rotisserie. Once carved, it's served over a bed of rice with chive pancakes, herbs and bibb lettuce, with three different sauces: hoisin sauce, duck scallion sauce with duck fat, and Korean bo ssäm sauce, as well as crispy shallots and two sides from the menu.

While available for groups between three and six, I wouldn't go with any less than the maximum number allowed. The six of us were thoroughly stuffed after eating for nearly two hours. Considering how beautiful th weather was outside, we decided to walk the 25-odd blocks home.

On the way, we stumbled upon Ralph's and just had to get an Italian ice. Then we walked past the Metropolitan Life North Building, a beautiful art deco building which is now home to Credit Suisse and my favourite NYC restaurant:

Side note: You've seen this Mansur Gavriel bag in almost every post these past few months and I can't rave enough about it. The tan colour goes with all I wear on weekends. The leather is beautiful, stiff at the outset but more supple with wear. It holds plenty - that afternoon I carried around an iPad, a large wallet, water bottle, DSLR, little cosmetic bag AND a bottle of rosé purchased for aforementioned Bastille Day party. Mary Poppins bag you say? Yes indeed. I don't care if every blogger under the sun has it as it's genuinely a fabulous bag for not a huge amount of moolah. Go, be a sheep, and pre-order here, here, and here.

Here's to a great week ahead!
